Arriving at Baguio City late in the morning, we decided to have brunch instead of just getting a light breakfast which we are used to. To be honest, we haven’t planned and set up our Baguio City itinerary prior to the travel. We did, however, found one recommended food place to go to for food as soon as we get there – Cafe By The Ruins.

I wondered why there is too much hype on the place. Cafe By The Ruins is borne out of friendship of artists and thinkers who simply called it Café while other people call it the Ruins. This gave birth to what the cafe is now called and a start of a venue for community events with good food along with nurturing friendships. It is rustic, and meant for people who enjoys warm, and rustic ambiance. The sitting areas are unadulterated as to not steal away attention from what is left of the crumbled but well supported walls that gave this cafe its name.
I ordered the Mt. Data Tapa meal (340PhP) I must say I love the Tapa, and the red rice. I would have preferred my scrambled egg to be less soft/wet but I like that they were generous in the fillings. I am a big fan of the local hot chocolate and would recommend that to anyone who loves chocolate drinks.
Josiah ordered the local longganisa meal called Ruins Longganisa (340PhP) which I also got to try. I head over heels in love with Baguio’s local longganisa. It is tasty, meaty and fillingjust like I like sausages to be. The meals came with a bowl of fruits each that was served before the food was but you have to order your hot drink separately.
Cafe By The Ruins is meant for slow dining. A place to enjoy food, and enjoy company with their guiding principle of serving locally grown, and seasonal produce from the markets of Baguio. The menu changes every four months depending on what comes fresh from the market.
The cafe can get packed especially around peak hours. The service was a bit slow but the staff were very attentive to our needs. The food is a bit hit and miss for me to be honest but I did enjoy the local longganisa. The food and the place is worth its hype if you’re the type who enjoys dining in warm, artistic ambiance. This could not pass as budget or cheap dining at Baguio City with the breakfast meals ranging at 300-400 PhP exclusive of hot drinks. However, because it was a heavy meal and we had it for brunch, I could say that it was worth it.
