Mobile phones however convenient these are, are one of the necessary evil we all carry around. It keeps us connected to people but disconnects us with the present, it buys us time to get things done but takes away time when we get caught up in it, and it does us good when we learn new things with it but also stagnates and narrows our thinking when we are not being careful. Being engrossed online, we forget to live in the now.

Stop Being Engrossed Online & Live In The Now

A  social media and digital trend report by Hootsuite revealed that the Philippines now has 67 million Internet users, with all of them active on social media.  This widespread use of the internet gives rise unhealthy use of social media and the internet by its users. With this, Globe Telecom came out with  #makeITsafePH cybersecurity and cyberwellness campaign to educate consumers about online threats and what they can do to avoid becoming a victim.  The campaign also teaches the public with the proper use of social and digital media to prevent and avoid regrettable behaviour.

Put Your Phone Away And Stay Focus

We sometimes think that we have been productive with our hours going through our messages and emails but truth be told the little unending scrolling down the newsfeeds eat up our time to get things done. Set your phone aside so you can focus on your work and finish it on time, if not earlier than expected. You might be surprised to find the time you regain from getting off the phone, and just pushing onwards with work makes you more productive.

Make New Memories

Being engrossed on our mobile phones can be annoying to the people we are with and it can also be downright rude. It is not nice to ignore, disregard someone who took tie to see, and catch up with you because you are on your phone. Mobile phones and social media were created for our convenience, not to take over our lives. So remember to have meaning conversation with your family, and join in the banters with your friends. Be in the present and create new memories with your loved ones instead of being to wrapped up on what can wait.

Learn a New Hobby

A new hobby is also a good way to get off your mobile for awhile. Not only will you be able to learn something new, you will also exercise your creativity. It could possibly spark a passion you never thought you had, and you will also meet new people along the way.

Go Out And Seek Adventure

The best way to live now is to go out, if not travel. We need to get out from our familiars, and comfortable zones and see how others live, and to experience bits of their lives by immersing in their communities, and culture. You do not have to travel far to seek new adventures. You can always go out with a bunch of your friends and see where you can spend your time while helping others like seeing the elderlies at the home of the aged, volunteering your free time to pick up trash in the beach, help in medical missions, or go on fun runs to help raise awareness and funds.

The real world is so much better lived than the one online. Being too engrossed with online activity, will make us miss what is happening in the real world. We must learn to put our mobile phones down to connect with people and communities, widen our knowledge through outdoor experiences, grow with new hobbies learned, make and collect new memories that need not be broadcasted on the social media, and try to make meaningfully use our time to live in the now.
