It was late when we got to the city that I scrambled a good hour or two looking for a decent internet connection. The difficulty of working freelance and online is that even when I am on the road – whether I am on a long trip or a short one for an errand like this, I still bring work around with me. I had let Josiah know that I need to work elsewhere right at the start of the day, and it turned out so was he. We met at the hotel lobby the next and decided to try the restaurant called Circa 1850 at the ground floor of Red Planet Hotel Cagayan de Oro.

Circa 1850 is a direct offspring of Sentro 1850 which is inspired by slow food movement – a counter culture to fast food which advocates the preservation of traditional and regional cuisine.

The entrance to the bar and restaurant faces the hallway leading to Red Planet Hotel but the large window faces out in the street inviting people in with its warm and solid colours of neutrals. Having booked our accommodation online via Agoda, we opted not to book one with breakfast. It turns out that breakfast is served at this restaurant when you book with Red Planet with that option.

I ordered the Meaty Breakfast which was too much for my appetite. It was was a generous serving of grilled pork, bacon, sausage, veggies, and rice on a hot plate. It was priced at 395 PHP, and one of the expensive breakfast meal on the menu, and it does not disappoint. Josiah ordered Tocino Breakfast Meal which was priced at 269 PHP and more or less the breakfast meals costs around that.

Check out the food trip we had on this short Cagayan De Oro visit on the video.
